The Institute is a partner in the  Key Project BIOGRATEX „Biodegradable fibrous materials”– PO IG.01.03.01-00-007/08  co-sponsored  by the European Union From the European Fund of Regional Development  in the framework of the Operative Program    Innovative Economy Project, 2007-2013,

The Polish Platform of Textile Industry Technology has prepared the project „Biodegradable fibrous materials”. Objective of the project is to  promote innovative technologies crucial for economy and competitiveness of  enterprises both in domestic and world markets by preparing a wide range of textile products made of biodegradable polymers derived from renewable resources. It is expected that the project would contribute to the improvement of the society’s life quality in the scope of health protection ,hygiene, work safety and development of ecological agriculture by the manufacture of highly advanced products that are human-and environment-friendly in their entire life cycle. The project shall enhance the role of R&D  in priority domains of the socio-economical development

In view of the multi- and trans-disciplinary character of the project, it has been divided into seven closely interlinked subprojects :

  • Subproject 1: Selection of optimal molecular and macromolecular structure of biodegradable polymers to be used in the project.;
  • Subproject 2: Preparation of a technology to spin fibres from biodegradable polymers;
  • Subproject 3: Manufacture of  spun – bond non-woven from biand agriculture odegradable polymers;
  • Podprojekt 4: Preparation of prototypes of  flat textiles for  filtration and uses in medicine-hygiene and agriculture
  • Podprojekt 5: Preparation of prototypes of the filter- ,medical-, hygiene- and agriculture materials
  • Subproject 6: Assessment of biodegradability
  • Subproject 7: „Life Cycle Assessment” analysis.

All subprojects must be accomplished to attain the scientific and implementation goals of the key project.

Institute of Biopolymers and Chemical Fibres realizes scientific tasks within Subproject 2 Subproject  3 and Subprojects 6 and 7.

The Institute is a leader in the  foresight project “Modern technologies for the textile industry , Chance for Poland” UDA-POIG.01.01.01-00-005/09-00 co-sponsored by the European Union within the Operative Programme Innovative Economy, 2007-2013.

Objective of the project

The immediate goal of the project is to identify R&D trends thus assisting the Polish Platform of Textile Industry Technology in the preparation of strategy

Objective: The project is aimed at strategic research and preparation of innovative technologies in the processing of renewable resources for the manufacture of novel  materials from biodegradable polymers. The main goal of the project is to increase the role of science to play in the improvement of innovativeness and competitiveness of national economy and of the country’s civilization  and economy standards.

 

The project comprises 6 task packages
Task package 1 : Preparation of a technology to produce polylactide (PLA) on a model pilot line  (PLA installation)
Task package 2 : Preparation of a technology to produce aliphatic-aromatic biodegradable polyester (IBPE) on a model pilot line  ( IBPE installation)
Task package 3 : Investigation in the chemical modification of PLA , IBPE and PLA – IBPE compositions
Task package 4 : Investigation in the processing of  PLA , IBPE and PLA – IBPE
Task package 5 : Analysis of information concerning competitive works 
Task package 6 : Management and promotion

Objective: The project is aimed at the preparation of several technologies  to produce textile and composite materials based on raw materials derived from the processing of plant biomass by biotechnological methods. Specific enzymatic preparations or cultures of microorganisms are to bee used in the methods  An impact of the new technologies is expected upon the development  of a science-based economy.

 

The project encompasses 5 subprojects :
Subproject 1. Selection of a biomass as the starting raw material
Subproject 2. Selection and evaluation of catalysts for the project’s goals 
Subproject 3. Employing of bioprocesses in the manufacture of raw materials and intermediate products
Subproject 4. Preparation of innovative polymeric materials
Subproject 5. Evaluation of the practical use of the prepared products.
